General Questions

Where are BUFORI vehicles being produced?

BUFORI cars are hand crafted in our factory in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. This is one of the few places in the world where skilled craftsmen with a tradition of painstaking handwork can be found in great number. Prior to moving operations to Malaysia, the Bufori was Australian-made and was the only company producing motor vehicles in Australia to enjoy the prestige of being licensed by the Advance Australia Council to carry the "Australian Made" logo.

Who stands behind BUFORI?

The creator and founder of BUFORI Gerry Khouri, supported by his brothers Anthony and George, are the main figures behind the brand. However, BUFORI would not be possible without hundreds of passionate team-members, partners and suppliers, who believe in the company philosophy.

What is the BUFORI Story?

BUFORI started in 1986 as a hobby by Australian automobile enthusiast Gerry Khouri who was determined to build the world's finest motor car. He planned to design the car along the lines of the classic cars of the early 1930's but with state-of-the-art engineering and technology. His company developed into a highly reputable builder of exotic and handcrafted sports cars.

What is the BUFORI philosophy?

At BUFORI everything revolves about producing quality, not quantity. In our factory, the choice of the finest materials, experienced craftsmen and the extreme care devoted to all manufacturing phases of our cars, perpetuate and renew our tradition of excellence and refinement.

Where are BUFORI cars available?

BUFORI cars are available through our dealers in various parts of the world or directly from us. For further information, please refer to the dealer section.

What does BUFORI mean?

The name BUFORI is an acronym composed of several words. When the company was founded in 1986, the Khouri brothers asked friends and customers about their first impression and sensation when seeing the car. The result was BUFORI: B for beautiful, U for Unique, F for FUNtastic, O for Original, R for Romantic and I for Irresistible.

Are BUFORI vehicles kit cars?

No, BUFORI does not build and sell assembly kits or SKD and CKD units. All cars are fully designed, engineered and manufactured to international standards at the BUFORI factory. Only 100% completed units leave our factory after a meticulous Pre-Delivery-Inspection (PDI).

Are BUFORI vehicles replicas?

No, BUFORI vehicles are not copies of specific models from the past. BUFORI vehicles are our own creations. The design is however inspired from the 1930's, which explains why it resembles cars from that era.

About BUFORI Technology

What is Carbon Fibre and Kevlar?

Carbon Fibre and Kevlar is a hybrid composite material used to make the body structure of all BUFORI cars. It is composed of two distinct fibres which are weaved together in a special pattern to combine their strengths and eliminate their weakness. Carbon fibre is extremely strong and light, and is commonly used on supercars or motorsports. The downfall of Carbon fibre is when it reaches its breaking point, it splinters like glass and loses integrity. Kevlar is an aramid material produced by Dupont. It is the strongest manmade fibre on planet earth and is commonly used in bullet-proof vests or airplane wings. It is not as light as Carbon-fibre (but still very light) but has the so-called "memory attribute". It means that when this fibre is bent, it will come back into its initial shape. By combining the flexibility of Kevlar with the lightness of Carbon-Fibre, the strengths of both fibres are united and a unique body material with extraordinary structural integrity is obtained. This makes each BUFORI car safe, light and forever corrosion-free.

To what standard are BUFORI cars built?

BUFORI cars are engineered from ground up to comply with the highest and most stringent international standards such as the European ECE directives. Naturally, every model is extensively tested by internationally recognised bodies (such as TUV Germany) and homologated to these standards.

About the BUFORI La JOYA

What does "La JOYA" mean?

"La JOYA" is Spanish and means "The Jewel". Every single La JOYA we hand craft is unique and a masterpiece on its own, just like a precious stone. Furthermore, BUFORI Owners may ask for precious stones to be mounted in the car interior. Imagination is the only limit.

Is there a waiting list for the car?

There is no such thing as a waiting list. However, from the order placement until final shipping of the vehicle, it will take about 4-6 months (about 3500 working hours), since every car is handmade and customised to the wishes of the future owner.

How long does it take to build a BUFORI La JOYA?

It takes approximately 4-6 months to handcraft a BUFORI La JOYA. On average 3500 working hours are required to build the vehicle.

To what degree can the car be customised?

Every BUFORI La JOYA is a unique masterpiece. The body colour, upholstery colour and carpet colour can be chosen according to the wishes of the customer. Many more details can be customised. Even precious stones like diamonds or rubies can be mounted in the car interior, hence the name "La JOYA". A BUFORI owner is only limited by the size of his imagination.
